Threadbare

Threadbare was staged as part of ‘Cartography’ an intimate theatre performance at Manipulate Festival.

A poetic fairytale, the piece seeks to expose the violence woven into the fabric of our society.

Rooted in the idea of intimate exchange, audience members are invited to offer their testimony—intertwining their own words with fragments cut from the performer’s dress, bearing witness to the ways male violence permeates and consumes us.

Over three days, both performer and space were transformed through the exposure of everyday misogyny, trauma and flesh.

Through this act of disintegration, the work seeks to explore vulnerability, erosion, and collective resistance to male violence.

The work-in-progress was one of six works produced by

Al Seed Productions for Cartography and

Manipulate Festival

staged at The Fruitmarket, Edinburgh.

“I particularly enjoyed

…Kirsty May Hamilton’s vivid response in fabric and thread…

this emerging form of performance seeks to offer

profound moments of intimacy and connection

in a world where those seem ever harder to find.”
